    I respect Kate Muir and I wholeheartedly agree wit I respect Kate Muir and I wholeheartedly agree with the statement about women needing access to #hrt and our #healthcare professionals being better informed to prescribe HRT to those who need it. I personally know how vital this is as I take 2mg Oestrogen daily due to a Hysterectomy as a member of the BMS I am privy to the stock levels of HRT so I do understand the struggles. But that’s no excuse to restrict prescribing HRT to those who need it and can take it. 

However, I also see both sides of this directive, but I don’t agree that Menopause should be badged as a disability. My reasoning is this, I’ve kept it high level;

Both to be fair are beneficial. Menopause affects different people in different ways, some ladies have hardly any symptoms and cope with hardly any impact. Or they suffer with symptoms that may not commonly be recognised as Menopause symptoms which can effect your professional performance i.e Migraines, Dry Eyes, stiff shoulder and then you have common recognised symptoms, Brain Fog, Hot Flushes, Mood Swings, Lack of Concentration, Sleep Deprivation, Anxiety all these can impact on your performance and in some cases cause you to leave the workplace. Which I find so hard to accept, especially as you’ve invested so much time, effort and passion in your career. 

Not only is it soul destroying and can lead to depression that you may have to walk away from something you love, also as an employer, has also invested time, money in you to see you leave have to go through a costly recruitment process seems completely bonkers. 

Therefore, offering a Quiet Space, Fan, Cooler Clothing or flexible working (where possible) can be a welcome lifeline to some. I also appreciate it’s not always possible and a common ground and common sense approach is needed.

As your Oestrogen levels drop and you transition through Perimenopause, memory and cognition reduces and the potential increase risk of Alzheimer’s increases. 

Oestrogen, Progesterone & Testosterone all contribute to blood flow in brain which helps to prevent against memory loss and even dementia. 

Eating the right foods along with staying fit and healthy are so important during the Menopause transition period. 

HRT is worth considering to replace the hormones that your body is no longer able to produce.  There are many different variations of HRT available today

5. Water, the most important ingredient to staying hydrated and keeping energy levels sustained and everything functioning.
