What is Coaching?
I realise some of you who are reading this may never have considered contacting a coach or using the services of a coach or not sure what a coach does. You may be confused between what is the difference between a coach, therapist, counsellor, or a support facilitator? Well let me help you, here I’ll explain what I can offer and help you with as a coach. If you’re interested and you feel coaching is you, please reach out and let’s work together.
Coaching is a professional relationship between a coach, me, and a client, you, with the goal of facilitating personal or professional development, learning, and improvement. I will work with you or a group to help you / them set and achieve specific goals, overcome challenges, and maximise potential.
Coaching is a collaborative process that focuses on empowering you to identify your own solutions and make informed decisions. The coaching relationship is typically focused on the present and future, aiming to enhance your skills, and overall well-being.
Key aspects of coaching we will focus on include:
Goal Setting
Coaching begins with the identification of specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. I will work with you to understand your objectives and define your desired outcomes and what you want to achieve, and in what timeframe.
Guidance and Support
As your Coach I provide guidance, support, and encouragement to help you navigate challenges, develop strategies, and make informed decisions. The coach does not typically provide solutions but facilitates your own problem-solving and decision-making processes.
Accountability
As your Coach, you are held accountable for your actions and commitments. This accountability helps you to stay focused on your goals and make achievable progress.
Active Listening
I employ active listening skills to fully understand your perspectives, challenges, and aspirations. This creates a trusting and open space for effective communication, held in confidence.
Questioning and Reflection
As your Coach I use questioning techniques to stimulate self-reflection and promote deeper understanding. This will help you to gain and support insights into your values, motivations, and potential barriers.
Skill Development
Coaching often involves the identification and development of specific skills relevant to the your goals. This could include leadership skills, communication skills, time management, or other competencies.
Feedback
Coaches provide constructive feedback to help you recognise your strengths, areas for improvement, and blind spots. I will also deliver feedback in a supportive and non-judgmental manner.
Holistic Approach
Coaching may address various aspects of your life, including personal, professional, and even aspects related to well-being and work-life balance.
Solution-Focused
Coaching is solution-focused, aiming to help you find practical and effective solutions to challenges. It emphasises the identification of action steps and the implementation of strategies.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is of the upmost importance to me. I will maintain confidentiality to create a safe and trusting space for you to openly discuss your thoughts, concerns, and goals.
Coaching is not therapy, mentoring, or consulting, as it does not delve deeply into your past or provide expert advice. Instead, coaching focuses on unlocking your potential, fostering self-discovery, and facilitating goal attainment through a collaborative and forward-looking approach.

What is Empowerment?
Want to be a superhero and empower those around you? Here are some tips to help them unleash their inner awesomeness:
First, create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, where people can be their true selves. Encourage open and honest communication and lend an ear when they need to get things off their chest, but respect their boundaries.
Next, be a beacon of support when the going gets tough. Whether it’s lending a shoulder to cry on or offering practical help, be there when they need you most.
Don’t forget to celebrate their victories, big and small. Recognition and positive reinforcement can go a long way toward building confidence and self-esteem.
Share what you know! Your skills and experience can help others navigate tricky situations. But remember to respect their autonomy and let them make their own choices. Empowerment means giving people the space they need to make their own decisions.
Encourage their growth and development. Help them set goals and provide opportunities for them to learn new things. Remind them of their strengths and capabilities. Everyone has something to offer, and it’s your job to help them see that.
Help them to spread their wings, connect them to new networks and opportunities for growth. Introduce them to like-minded people and help them explore new avenues. There’s often hidden benefits for you too.
Lead by example! Your actions speak louder than words, so demonstrate the qualities you want to see in others.
Finally, build a sense of community and mutual support. We’re all in this together, so let’s help each other reach our full potential!
